.MOBI is a top-level domain (TLD) approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. .MOBI guides mobile users to made-for-mobile Internet content and services that can be accessed with confidence and is backed by the most prominent mobile and Internet players in the world. It make the mobile device as useful as a PC for browsing and data services, but far more portable.
MOBI launches in late May 2006 with a Sunrise Registration Period open to Trademark holders. This will be followed in late August with the General Registration Period, open to the public, which continues indefinitely.
When can I start registering .MOBI domains?
The Sunrise Period: The Sunrise Registration Period, launching in May 2006, is divided into two phases.
Limited Industry Sunrise – May 22nd to May 29th
Members of mobile industry trade associations GSMA, CTIA, MMA, CWTA and MEF have an exclusive opportunity to register their trademarked names during an eight-day Limited Industry Sunrise Period from May 22 to May 29 2006.
Trademark Sunrise – June 12th to September 22nd
Monday June 12th is the start of the Trademark Sunrise when all other trademark holders can register their trademark as .MOBI domain names. Trademark Sunrise will continue until Monday August 21st, a period of 70 days.
General Registration
Landrush – September 26th
Beginning on September 26th .MOBI registration is open to everyone. This is known as General Registration which continues indefinitely. General Registration commences with a short two week registration period known as Landrush when desirable .MOBI domain names may be registered at a premium price.

Only qualified Trademarks holders may register their domain names during the Sunrise period. A qualified Trademark owner for the purposes of the Sunrise Registration Period is anyone who holds a Trademark or Service mark of national effect, applied for prior to July 11, 2005 and granted before the date of the domain name application. The domain name itself must also meet certain rules.
What is the Landrush Registration period?
Landrush is a two-week period of time prior to General Registration during which individuals or organizations may register their .MOBI domain name through a registrar at a premium price.
Who is eligible to register a domain name during the Landrush Registration period?
Any individual or organization who agrees to the terms and conditions of the .MOBI Accredited registrar of the mTLD may register a .mobi domain name during Landrush and General Registration.
